Easy right? Uh no. Seriously nearly impossible. I am very inspired by all the no waste peeps out there and I hope to someday get my no waste ship sailing, but for right now, just avoiding single-use plastics is going to be a mega challenge! Why do you think I picked the shortest month? I am dreading it.
In my No Single-Use Plastic fantasy me, I am gracefully browsing a beautiful farmer’s market, smiling at all the vendors and making small talk about soil while my son quietly chomps on raw organic broccoli beside me.
But truthfully farmer’s markets give me social anxiety. There’s just so much pressure! What if I reject one farmer’s apples, but then buy from the one across the aisle? Would their feelings be hurt? Would they be mad?
What I LOVE is to shop at Trader Joes, but oh so sadly that place is LOADED with single-use plastics (aka SUP). I’ll snap a picture next time I go there, but in the meantime, check out the greens and some hardware at Target – ALL WRAPPED IN PLASTIC!!!

This is also a very confusing challenge. Not all SUPs seem like SUPs. And sometimes (a lot of times) they’re hidden inside a box. Sometimes tea bags are wrapped in plastic! Each individual tea bag? Why?
I don’t quite know what I’m doing. I will be reading blogs and learning as I go. I’m taking it a day at a time. Hopefully I don’t mess it up too badly…
Have you banned single use plastic? Do you want to? Do you own an oil field and want us to keep using plastic as much as possible? Let me know.
