Did you know that organic (aka food) waste is one of the biggest contributors to climate change? You did? Well smarty pants, I didn’t know until THIS YEAR! I mean I knew that food waste was a GINORMOUS problem, but I didn’t get the whole picture. Here’s the quick and disgusting explanation: food left to rot in landfills produces methane which is 25% a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2! So gross and totally horrifying.

AND AND AND- we’re not even talking about all the extra agriculture, fossil fuel, water, animal lives, and packaging that are wasted producing food that no one eats! Meanwhile, there are starving people everywhere (except Finland, I hear they figured it all out).
The whole thing makes me bananas! (Food pun alert)
Ok- so let’s all take a deep breath, I can’t fix it all today, but I can do something to zero out the food waste that leaves my house- and that is my challenge for this month!
First order of business? Everything gets composted! You heard me, EVERYTHING!
Read my next post to see how I’m doing this and if I’m totally messing it up!
